About the Society

About the Film & Stage Society

A registered nonprofit dedicated to the wellbeing and longevity of performing arts professionals worldwide — a century of work, lived one career at a time.

We were founded on a simple conviction: the people who give us our cultural life deserve a profession that can sustain them. Actors, dancers, stage managers, technicians, designers, musicians, and crew face uniquely precarious working conditions — long gaps between contracts, frequent relocation, and limited safety nets. The Society was built to close those gaps.

Our programs are designed in consultation with working artists. Applications are confidential, decisions are timely, and aid is delivered without bureaucratic friction. We measure ourselves not by the size of our endowment, but by the steadiness of the careers we help protect.

The Society is governed by an independent board of directors and audited annually. Our financial reports, governance documents, and program outcomes are published in full on our Impact page.
